At Ginsberg and Associates we provide a wide range of counseling for a variety of issues. All of our therapists have been extensively trained both academically and within a multitude of practice settings and have years of experience working to assist people with their issues by using strength-focused therapy. Whether you are looking to find a solution-focused, empirically validated approach to making efficient change in your life; dealing with extensive clinical issues that need very specialized focus; or searching for support around a developmental life transition, our passion is helping clients create the healing, growth, and change they are wanting in their lives. We take an approach that allows clients to work in the "here and now" as well explore historical aspects of their lives, and use emotion-based, insight-oriented, and cognitive-behavioral / systems based treatments. All of our clinicians have been trained and work as "psychology generalists", much like a medical general practitioner or family doctor. We are equipped to treat most difficulties people are experiencing. Of course, when a client's issues go beyond our knowledge or expertise, we are quick to ethically refer to colleagues who can meet your needs.
Individual counseling, also referred to as "therapy" or "psychotherapy", is an exciting, supportive, and challenging process that has been proven to be one of the most effective ways for people to address emotional struggles and distress. People enter therapy for a variety of reasons, but the most important aspect of successful therapy is a strong, trusting relationship between therapist and client. Our first goal is to ensure that you feel safe to discuss anything you'd like and that you can trust and feel comfortable with your therapist. Our practice is committed to the idea that a person's strengths are the foundation to healing, growth, insight, and development, and as such our therapy aims to mesh our expertise with a client's own wisdom to help them reach their specific goals.
Couples therapy generally refers to therapy with any two people who are involved in a close and intimate romantic relationship, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, or sanctioned commitment. These relationships often need both reactive and proactive care so that existing struggles can be addressed in a safe place with an eye on helping the couple determine their goals and move confidently and empathically toward them. In our couples work we ensure that each member is valued and respected so that their needs, desires, and goals are heard and involved in the process.
Sometimes, various family units other than romantically involved couples are looking for therapy, and in these cases, family therapy is the treatment of choice. This may involve an entire nuclear family, an extended family, or pairs or other groupings of family members who need to talk about important relationship issues between them. In these cases, the entire family or relationship system that is involved in therapy is considered "the client" and every member is treated with an equal degree of respect, empathy, and thoughtfulness to ensure their voice is heard.
The worldwide Covid pandemic ushered in a new era of mental health services. Research has indicated that for most clients with most issues, telehealth services are as effective as in-person sessions. We provide both in-person and remote therapy and discuss with each client the modality they feel most comfortable using. Some clients opt for a combination of both in-person and online therapy. Whatever your preference, we tailor-design services to fit your needs.
Sometimes it is helpful for clients to engage in psychological testing and assessments in order to most accurately drive treatment. We offer a wide array services in this area for those seeking objective clinical assessments into their mental health functioning and / or work performance.
As a clinical team, we are thoroughly committed to diversity and pluralism in our society. Rick's long-term belief has been that being engaged in professional mental health work is a form of social justice in its own right. We believe that working to ensure people who are struggling be treated with respect and compassion in ways that historically sometimes they have not, is a way to make our world better and protect and enhance the dignity of all people. Above and beyond this grounding principle, the work that we do is affirming and encouraging of all of our clients' differences and worldviews be that any form of identity including, but not limited to, gender, age, physical and emotional abilities, sexual orientation, religion, political view, and learning style.
Our treatment is often language-based, so words between our clients and us are vital. As such, the terminology and language we use to discuss differences and identity are often evolving due to recent trends based on respect, cultural evolution, best practices, and research. We love to hear from our clients about how they use language in their personal identifications, and are always open to our clients' needs and desires in this area.
We strive to get our commitment to diversity right all the time, and when or if we don't, we're eager to adapt, evolve, and shift to our clients needs through hearing from them. Additionally, as a staff, we are consistently doing our own work in this area to challenge our assumptions, grow, learn, and develop to be the best stewards possible of our community's humanity. We are grounded in open, honest, and forthright discussions and relationships with clients that put client dignity, strength, and affirmation of who they are at the core of these connections.
